If you are struggling with depression, you are far from alone. It is estimated that 21 million Americans will suffer from a major depressive episode at some point in their lives. Depression is more than just being unhappy; instead, this condition can be characterized by feelings of negativity, hopelessness, and overwhelming sadness that affect your ability to function and your quality of life.
Anxiety is similarly common, with just under 20% of Americans experiencing an anxiety disorder each year. While fear and anxiety are often used interchangeably, anxiety disorders are more debilitating, characterized by excessive and intrusive thoughts, worries, and fears that can negatively impact your work and relationships.

The treatment of schizophrenia and other psychoses has historically relied on pharmaceutical interventions, which are often cold and clinical and ignore the possibility of finding deeper meaning.
At Midtown Counseling, we avoid language of pathology, instead focusing on empowerment, transparency, and collaboration. Our ultimate goal is to help every client reconnect with society by embracing recovery as a process. We place an emphasis on the client’s words and story, allowing for emotions to arise and get processed in real time.
To further facilitate this open and honest dialogue, we encourage active participation from family members, which can enable the
client to communicate effectively and without fear. Importantly, all treatment decisions are made with the client present, as we believe the client should participate in conversations about their life trajectory.

Current treatments for psychosis center primarily around medication, with little attention given to talk therapy. However, psychotherapy provides an incredibly powerful space in which those experiencing psychosis can process distress and generate meaning.
The level of care we offer reflects the distress levels of the client. One-on-one sessions can take place daily if needed. We also offer group therapy, which is often an excellent opportunity to develop support systems based on shared experiences.
